APSARA Authority and Germany Sign MoU for Continued Temple Conservation and Restoration

Phnom Penh, July 10, 2024 – On July 9, 2024, Hang Pov, Director General of APSARA Authority, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German delegation at the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts. The signing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and Chairman of the Board of APSARA Authority.

The MoU aims to continue and enhance the cooperation in the restoration and conservation of temples in Angkor and other historical sites managed by the APSARA Authority. This renewed partnership highlights the ongoing commitment of both parties to preserve Cambodia's cultural heritage.

During the ceremony, Dr. Phoeurng Sackona emphasized the significance of this collaboration, noting that the expertise and support from Germany have been instrumental in the successful restoration projects undertaken in the past. She expressed her gratitude for the continued partnership and looked forward to future projects that would benefit from this cooperation.

Hang Pov, Director General of APSARA Authority, reiterated the importance of international cooperation in safeguarding Cambodia’s historical sites. He acknowledged the technical and financial assistance provided by the German team, which has greatly contributed to the preservation efforts in Angkor.

The German representative highlighted the shared cultural heritage between Cambodia and Germany and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the conservation initiatives. He also mentioned that this MoU would facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices between the two countries, further strengthening their collaboration.

The MoU encompasses various aspects of restoration and conservation, including the use of advanced technologies, training of local experts, and sustainable management of the sites. It also aims to promote cultural tourism, which plays a crucial role in the local economy.

This agreement marks another milestone in the long-standing partnership between APSARA Authority and Germany, ensuring the protection and preservation of Cambodia’s invaluable cultural heritage for future generations.
